Hexie coasters!

Hexie coasters...

...or Tiny Toffee hexies gone big!!!

Several sewers told me they think they would never master paper piecing in such a small scale. First of all, let me tell you that I am convinced each one of you can do this! Secondly, I thought I´d play around with my designs and enlarge them to a size that doesn´t scare those sewers! ;) The super sized hexies are a great option to increase your confidence in paper piecing. So if you can do a super sized hexie you can totally do a tiny scale one too!

For the robin coaster we will need:

the robin template from the Into The Woods hexie set
fabric scraps for the paper pieced hexie
small piece of fusible interfacing and background fabric

1. Enlarge your pattern to 200%.
2. Piece the hexie as usual. When you are done don´t remove the paper right away but make sure to cut all excess fabric off along the edges of the paper. Remove paper and use your pieced hexie as a template to cut another hexie from background fabric and one from fusible interfacing.

3. Fuse interfacing to the wrong side of the paper pieced hexie.

4. Layer the pieced hexie and the background hexie on top of each other, right sides together. Sew all around with a 1/4 inch seam allowance, leaving a gap for turning on one edge!

5. Turn coaster right side out, press carefully to make the edges nice and even.

6. Topstitch all the way around the edges (this will automatically close the turning gap!). Tadaaa, you are done and ready to admire your new coaster!

That was easy right?! You just need to sit back now, enjoy a mug of hot chocolate and plan some tiny hexies! ;)
